PERMISSIONS/OPT OUT

OOC

Backtagging: Definitely!
Threadhopping: Unless it's a super personal or closed thread, I'm usually down for it. When in doubt, feel free to ask me about it.
Fourthwalling: No on this one. She's not the sort of person who would respond well to being told she's a fictional character.
Offensive subjects: As long as it's IC, I'm cool with most things that might come up in RP. If something reaches the point that I become uncomfortable, though, I will let you know.

IC

Physical contact: As far as platonic touching is concerned, that's fine. I'm pretty sure everyone in her family is a hugger.
Romance: Not a priority for her right now, but she wouldn't be outright opposed to it.
Fighting: By all means, go for it. That armor isn't just for show!
Injuries or death: Again, hell yeah. Talk to me about it first, but I am most certainly down for Sieglinde getting injured.

canon point: Shortly after being captured by the crystal golem.
age: 17

(canon) background:
http://darksouls.wikia.com/wiki/Sieglinde_of_Catarina

This is all very bare-bones, but the gist of things is that Sieglinde is a young woman from the land of Catarina – a country known for it's drinks, festivities and the generally jolly, friendly nature that it's people tend to have. Sieglinde, like her father before her, has trained all her life to become one of her nation's proud knights.

Her life continued on as one might expect the life of a fresh-faced knight to go – a lot of training, mostly, with minor missions throughout the country alongside more experienced knights, to maintain peace and to aid the kingdom's people where necessary. Y'know, knight stuff.

All that changed, though, when her father, Siegmeyer, came under the curse of the undead. Undead, in Sieglinde's world, are not well-liked by the still-human, and so he was forced to leave the knighthood.

In many countries, undead are rounded up and sent to the undead Asylum – but this was not the case for Siegmeyer. He was able to keep his weapon and his armor, so it can be safely assumed that he either escaped capture or was simply exiled rather than arrested. Regardless of how he managed to keep his freedom, however, the end result was the same. Siegmeyer went to the place that most undead end up going: Lordran.

As all this happened, Sieglinde mourned him, sure that she would never see him again. He had been a great knight, as well as a kind and loving father, and the primary reason she had become a knight in the first place. Still, she carried on with her life as best as she could.

...until a few months later, when her mother grew very ill. More ill than the doctors of Sieglinde's time period were able to cure, and she eventually passed away – but not before giving Sieglinde a few final words to remember her by, and a message for her father.

Thus began Sieglinde's quest to find her father. Because of his curse of the undead, she understood that she had a limited amount of time to find him before he went Hollow and became an mindless husk of the man he once was – and he already had a few months of a head start on her. And so Sieglinde began the long and arduous journey on foot to the dangerous land of Lordran.

She actually manages to get to Lordran without many issues - which speaks to her abilities in and of itself, because it's not a place that everyone is able to get to on their own. What's more, is that Sieglinde is still very much a human (and as such, doesn't get any second chances) and yet her skills as a warrior are enough to get her to survive in Lordran on her own for some time.

Unfortunately, her skills weren't enough to defeat every enemy she found herself pitted against, and after an unknown amount of time in Lordran, Sieglinde was attacked by a Golden Crystal Golem - large creatures made of crystal, that appear to be made and used by Seath the Scaleless, for the purposes of collecting women to be experimented on.

It wasn't a proper fight – the Golem took Sieglinde by surprise and encased her in crystal for transport (which is made clear by her comments after being rescued in canon; claiming that she wasn't sure how she had ended up within the golem), and carried her back to the Duke's Archives for experimentation.
It’s at this point that she’d have been pulled into Riverview. She felt extremely out-of-place inside the golem’s body, and her life was in danger.

abilities:
Sieglinde is a talented warrior, skilled in the use of a sword and shield, as well as heavy armor.
She's also particularly strong for a person her age - as is evident by the fact that she's able to maneuver herself around in that bulky set of armor she wears. She's also capable of wielding a bastard sword (a weapon quotes that is, to quote the game, "normally wielded with two hands due to its great weight") with one hand.

Her skill isn't anything bordering on superhuman, of course, but she is significantly above average in terms of strength.

strengths:
Driven: Upon her mother’s passing, Sieglinde left her homeland and tracked her father to Lordran (a notoriously dangerous place, filled with undead and deadly monsters) in order to deliver a message to him. Whether she did it purely because of the promise she made to her mother, or she just wanted to see her father one last time, there’s little doubt that the girl has one hell of a drive. When she sets herself to a goal, she doesn’t let things get in her way.
Responsible: Sieglinde has a profound sense of responsibility to her family and the people around her. The fact that she partook in this journey at all speaks to this, but there’s also the fact that she eventually finds her father a second time, after he had lost his mind and gone hollow. While it broke her heart to do it, she takes the responsibility of putting him down upon herself, even though there are other able-bodied warriors she could ask for help.
Bravery: Sieglinde is a trained knight. While she’s young, and not quite as experienced as her father or others of her order might be, she’s shown herself willing to put her own life at risk and face down dangers that would deter many others.

weaknesses:
The Armor: Look, I’m gonna be real with you. She’s not going to want to take the armor off in a lot of situations. It’s a symbol of her homeland, and a reminder of her father, and something that’s saved her life countless times. Despite its defensive advantages, it’s… really bulky and heavy and it limits her visibility. Plus it looks goofy as all hell and people are probably going to make fun of her for it.
High Tolerance of Other Peoples’ Nonsense: Just as stated. She has a tendency to let things slide, and as long as no one is hurting anyone else, she’s unlikely to intervene. She won't tolerate someone raising arms against her, of course, but when it comes to stupidity and antics she has a strong tendency to just sigh and swallow her frustration. As a result, she can be kind of a doormat.
Worrywort: While Sieglinde is confident enough in her own abilities to rush headfirst into danger, sword in hand, she tends to worry about other people’s well-being a bit more than her own. That, combined with the fact that she’s so comfortable putting herself in danger for the sake of others, can lead to some risky behavior on her part.

skills (optional): Given her experience within the military of Catarina, she’d be most comfortable being put on the Perimeter Guard – either as a standard guard or as a surveyor.
housing (optional): Perimeter Guard barracks.

network sample:
[It doesn’t take Sieglinde very long to decide that she doesn’t like these ‘smartphones’ all that much. The idea of talking to all of these people over such a long distance is an undoubtedly novel one – and surely a concept with many practical uses.
But it feels like someone is always saying something on the network, and the phone she’d been given requires its user’s bare fingertips in order to work. Which means that she needs to remove her gauntlet, in order to unlock the bloody thing.
It’s a little frustrating, is all she’s saying. That, combined with the fact that she still hasn’t figured out all of the gadget’s quirks, has somewhat soured her mood on them – even if they clearly have their uses.
]
Erm, yes. Hello? Oh, how do I get this to work? They just told me…
[It takes a moment of fiddling with the gizmo before the camera settles on the face of a teenage girl surrounded by a set of ludicrously bulky armor.]
Ah, there. I think I’ve got it. Hello to you all! I am Knight Sieglinde of Catarina, and it is good to meet you all. Or as good as it can be, given the circumstances.
I was brought to this place by mistake, you see. The good people of Riverview have promised to return me when they are able, but until then I am holding out hope that my father will stumble into the same sort of portal that I did. I beg of you, if any of you meet him here, please let me know. He is quite hard to miss – he wears the same sort of armor as I do, he has a moustache, and answers to the name Siegmeyer.
[A pause.]
And please, ask him to stay put if you find him. He has a tendency to wander off on his own…

Sieglinde of Catarina

Canonpoint: Just after being captured by the Golden Crystal Golem
Age: 17
Wish: "I wish to find my father and deliver to him my mother's dying words."
Result: Sieglinde's wish was granted to a 'T'. Kyuubey transported her to a place not far from where her father was. She approached him, gave him a hug and told him how much she'd missed him, and told him about what her mother's last message to him had been.
And then she was whisked away to Nyoi-cho.
Weapon: Zweihander, her father's blade. An ultra greatsword longer than Sieglinde is tall, heavy enough that it requires two hands for her to wield, but has a powerful swing. It's a tool used to overpower opponents and to knock them off their balance.

Above the cross-guard is a blunt section of the blade known as the ricasso. When in closer quarters (such as in a building) where the entire length of the blade's swing can't be used, one can grab onto the ricasso with one had, shortening the swing of the blade and allowing the weapon to keep it's usefulness when space is an issue.
Outfit: [COMING SOON]

Powers

» Passive ability:
Deathbed Messages:
When a Magi in Nyoi-cho dies – regardless of where they are in Nyoi-Cho, or what they had been doig – Sieglinde can pick up small messages from them. These messages are limited to a single sentence – and the subject matter can be literally anything. They can be helpful (such as “there's a trap around the next bend”) or personal (“Tell my wife I love her”) or they could be completely cryptic and unhelpful (“The crow flies at midnight.”) The main purpose of this is to allow for Sieglinde to know when someone has died, as well as to give her the opportunity to learn from the mistakes of others – especially in particularly dangerous scenarios, where Magi are dropping like flies.

That being said, the power itself isn't completely flawless. If a player OOCly wants their character's death to be a secret for whatever reason, there doesn't have to be a message. It's just provides an opportunity to pass on useful messages without having to wait for revival.

» Active ability:
Bloodhound:
Since Sieglinde's wish had involved tracking down her father, it makes sense that her power would involve tracking people down as well. Whenever Sieglinde is in possession of of an object a person has touched, she's able to use it to magically track down that person's current location (much in the way that a bloodhound might track down someone's scent, except with magic instead of just a really good nose).

The longer she uses this ability, the more magic it uses up from her own gem. Using it for more than an hour at any given time can significantly darken her soul gem – meaning that it doesn't work that well for long-range tracking.

It was there, trapped within the body of the monster, that she found herself approached by Kyuubey – with an offer to grant her wish, in exchange for becoming a Magical Girl.

Personality:

Outwardly, at least, the most obvious aspect of Sieglinde's personality is represented by the first thing people tend to notice about her: Her armor – or, to be more precise, what that armor represents, once you look past it's (admittedly somewhat silly-looking) design.

Sieglinde is a knight of Catarina. This role is as much a part of her identity as it is a profession – becoming a knight is a process that takes years of training to achieve. That, combined with Sieglinde's age, shows that she's devoted a hefty portion of her young life to the skills and tenants of her craft – and it's a craft she takes very seriously.

As one might expect from a young woman who has accomplished so much at a young age, the girl has an undeniable drive to accomplish her goals. Lordran is not a safe place to go – least of all for those who are still fully human. The entire country is extremely dangerous and full of undead – filled with dangerous creatures and traps practically designed to kill those undead over and over again, until they lose the will to continue onward, eventually becoming hollow. Sieglinde, being a human being, isn't able to come back to life after dying – she doesn't get any second chances at accomplishing her tasks – and yet she traveled to Lordran without any hesitation. More than that, she managed to survive and traverse the ruined kingdom for some time. Had Kyuubey not intevened when it did, Sieglinde would have eventually been freed from the crystal golem and managed to make her way through the country to find her father on her own.

The fact that she's willing to go to such lengths for her parents' sake (because the choice was as much about keeping a promise to her mother as it was about seeing her father one last time) just goes to show what a driven person she is – she'd willingly walk through fire for the people who are important to her (even if she might be a little bit exasperated at them for making her do it).

Tied deeply to that drive, and also to her role as a night, is the profound sense of responsibility and culpability that Sieglinde has. As mentioned, she was willing to go through hell to achieve the do the things she feels need to be done, but its more than just that. In canon, when the Chosen Undead helps free her, the first thing she does is try to find some way to repay them, since they had to go through the effort of saving her. After she meets her father in canon (or after she would meet her father, had she not been brought to Nyoi-cho) she chooses to stick around a while afterwards. Not because she feels he needs her, but because she knows that, eventually, he will go Hollow like all the other undead. And when that inevitably happens, she fears that someone will get hurt or killed by his hollow.

Which is why she sticks around, as difficult as it is to do, and waits. And when her father lost his mind on the shores of the darkwater basin, she decided it was her responsibility to put cut him down before he could hurt someone innocent. Clearly, that wasn't an easy decision for her – she had gone through so much just to see him again, and the player character can find her after the fact, crying over her body – but it was an act she thought was necessary.

Despite all these traits, however, Sieglinde is a sweet, genuinely kind person. While she isn't naive to the point of foolishness (when attacked, she expresses surprise that the player character is “one of the bad ones”), she does tend to generally trust someone after they make a good first impression, and does her best to be pleasant to those around her.

On top of that, she's a very polite young woman, quick to those that she suspects might have been troubled be her (or, more often in canon, her father's) actions. Again, this ties in pretty heavily with her sense of culpability – feeling as though she is somehow responsible for the trouble her father (a fully grown man, and an experienced knight in his own right) may have gotten into – but it also has to do with the fact that she genuinely cares about the troubles of others, and hopes that she (or her wandering kin) don't make them any harder.

In conclusion, Sieglinde of Catarina is a proud, caring knight of her nation, who seeks to do the best she can in a world that isn't doing her any favors. She takes her commitments seriously, and she's extremely willing to go to the (almost literal) ends of the earth in order to keep them. She cares deeply for those she knows, and the people around her – to the point that she's willing to work to clean up after them in order to ensure the well-being of those around her.

One of her biggest flaws is probably that she tends to put more onto her own shoulders than she probably should. But, then again, this is a Madoka game. There's no way that'll come back to bite her, right?
